Short bidding periods present challenges to contractors in assimilating and evaluating large amounts of geotechnical information and interpretation. Lachel’s construction engineering services include providing pre-bid evaluations that address geotechnical issues relative to contract requirements presented in the drawings and specifications. A typical evaluation addresses geological and geotechnical conditions that may affect the bid, describes expected soil and rock behavior in response to construction processes, assess constructability of the designed facilities, and identifies contract document provisions that may be of importance in bidding the project. To further assist contractors during bidding, Lachel’s staff includes several former contractors skilled in developing bid, or bid check estimates in HCSS (HeavyBid) format.
Lachel also offers a full range of tunnel and geostructural design services to contractors. From support of excavation designs, to shaft designs in soil and rock, to design of precast concrete segmented tunnel linings, our geotechnical and structural engineers provide detailed designs, prepare submittal documentations and packages, and provide technical expertise to value engineering proposals for contractors.
We also provide a variety of services to meet specified requirements for construction documentation including: full perimeter geologic mapping and recording of installed tunnel and shaft support; geotechnical instrumentation design, installation, and monitoring; documenting installation of soldier piles, soil nails, and tieback anchors, including performance proof testing.
